TTIL launches Net-based VCM
Our Staff Correspondent
PUNE 23 AUGUST

TATA Technologies India Ltd (TTIL) on Monday launched Value Chain Management (VCM), an Internet-based product that facilitates interaction between business partners and manufacturers.
Mr S D Pradhan, chief executive officer, TTIL, said: “Companies need to manage business processes efficiently across the value chain, from procurement, manufacturing, distribution to sales and service. VCM emphasises on reduction of both, cycle time and costs.”
The product was installed at Telco, Pune, on May 19. Over 350 of its suppliers have logged in over the past two months, Mr G S Singh, DGM, VCM group, said. It will be extended to Telco dealers shortly.
TTIL has filed for a portal under the brand name `vcmsolu- tions.com’. The product is aimed at the manufacturing sector where the trend is to out-source functions traditionally done within the company.
TTIL has bagged an order from a transport company that operates a fleet of trucks in 40 cities. The software will track all movement not only for the transporter but also for its customers.
This product alone is expected to add Rs 3 crore to TTIL’s turnover in the current financial year. Its turnover in 1998-99 was Rs 51 crore. While VCM is already Internet-enabled, it can also support e-commerce. TTIL will implement this in the Tata office in London, integrating it with Telco’s Pune, Jamshedpur and Mumbai offices. This is being seen as a business opportunity since TTIL gain access to the European market.
Features, which will be added to VCM, include video conferencing and design consultation on the Web, said Mr Deepak Shikarpur, head of business development, TTIL. The product will be displayed at an Internet exhibition in Delhi in September and is one of the four Indian products to be showcased by the Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce at the SMAU expo in Milan in October.
